Almost everyone knows how to ride a bike, from the earliest in years to the oldest in years. It is like learning how to swim, once you learn how you never forget. Can you recall when you learned how to ride a bike? Did you do it by yourself or did you have a older sibling help you or was it your parents? Today, biking, or as the term is now used, cycling, is still one of the most popular activities there is. Whether you are young or advanced in years, the numbers are still growing. It is not only healthy and invigorating, but it is also helpful in preserving our planet. And with the soaring cost of fuel and the decreasing size of our earnings it is a great way to stretch the hard earned dollar.
When was the last time you rode your bike to pick up something at the store? Instead of jumping in the car and driving five or six blocks, why not get on your bike and enjoy a short, healthy ride to the store. It will take about the same amount of time and be a lot less costly. Plus you will enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and get a little exercise as well.
You may have to go on a scavenger hunt to find your bike that you haven't used in who knows how long. And maybe you will have to fix a flat tire and put a little oil on the chain, but it will be well worth it. Show your children or grand children how to do these things so they can learn about maintaining a bike in case they need to fix theirs someday. Biking is great fun and rewarding. Get out and ride again. You owe it to yourself .
